S3: Science Safety Security

In compliance with the Executive Order on Improving the Safety and Security of Biological Research issued on May 5, 2025, federal departments and agencies will revise or replace the 2024 United States Government Policy for Oversight of Dual Use Research of Concern and Pathogens with Enhanced Pandemic Potential and the 2024 Framework for Nucleic Acid Synthesis Screening. This page will be updated once the revised policy and framework are available.

Emerging biological technologies are and will continue to transform the foundation of our physical world to benefit every American. The S3 project is a collaboration between U.S. government departments and agencies to further biorisk management education across a range of stakeholders.
