Why I Serve...

"My interest in serving on the NACIDD includes addressing the gaps between what is known and what gets done. It is easy to produce a long list of disability-related lessons from COVID-19 and other co-occurring and previous emergencies. These lessons include integrating equal access to emergency programs and services for people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs. However, it is challenging to move from minimal to practicing eternal vigilance through maximal, long, and continued work to operationalize, embed, and sustain the effort. "

June Kailes is a Disability Policy Consultant with over four decades of experience as a writer, trainer, researcher, policy analyst, subject matter expert, mentor, and advocate (www.jik.com). June focuses on building critical disability practice competencies and capabilities in health care and emergency management by using actionable details. June enjoys biking, traveling, theater, photography, music, podcasts, reading, and art projects. June doesn't enjoy exercising but does it anyway.
