The Mentor Recognition

Suz Roam exemplifies the title of mentor. Suz has been the MRC Coordinator at Southwest Utah MRC (UT) for several years. From the beginning of her time with the unit she has taken challenges head on and worked to find creative solutions. These solutions have become an asset to each of the units in Utah. Utah has gained five new unit leaders in the past three years. Without prompting, Suz has reached out to each of them and taken the time to share all her materials: tracking logs, presentations, suggestions for recruitment/retention, and more. She invites them to attend trainings and makes a point to create a connection with each of them, helping them to thrive. Suz attends the regional office hours each week and shares her materials and support across Region VIII. Suz recently attended the combined Region VIII and Region V office hours and provided suggestions on recruitment/retention to the Region V units, as well as advice on volunteer retention. When Suz finds something that works, she shares it and makes it easily adaptable, ensuring others don't need to recreate these items. In supporting her peers and colleagues at every level, Suz truly embodies the qualities of a wonderful mentor.
